WOW, that is an AMAZING POST!!
I love it. Thank you for sharing with us all. Although some Bible passages contain bits that are less than savory, those verses are a part worth cherishing and holding on to!

listened to a nice sermon last sunday.
had many nice parts to it to think about but one point had me enthralled.. and occasionally, somebody skips the service.
that happens from time to time, right?

last night hubby told me that his brother (an elder) told him how "provocative" the outline for this sunday's special talk is.
apparently it's something like "who is qualified to rule mankind" and goes on about how government is not qualified.
he then asked me if i'd like to attend (ha ha).
Mrs. Witness:
I love your style! Sounds like you gave hubby a 'special' talk of your own that will give him more to think about than anything he might hear this Sunday! Like others have said, there is NOTHING SPECIAL about this same old, same old DRIVEL - all hype and zero substance!
Keep hitting him with it - sounds like you gave him both barrels!
middle tenn late 70s.
first there was the child the high school girl had out of wedlock.
the term rape was bandied about after she began to show.
New boy: That has got to be the funniest wedding story I have ever heard! I'm dying of laughter here at the computer, tears running down my cheeks! Absolutely hilarious!
My story can't top that at all - but the 'cubic zirconia' from the other thread brought this to mind. Sister gets engaged after all of 3 or so dates to someone who apparently 'adores' her...he already has children from a previous marriage but 'good in the truth' - this is the answer to all her prayers!) ...engagement ring looks a little fake to me, but I ooh and ahh and fawn all over it as you're supposed to do...turns out the guy didn't have enough money for even the engagement ring, so she bought her own (cubic zirconia of course!) UNFREAKINGBELIEVABLE....would that not be your first tipoff that this is not a marriage that is going to last????
Anyhow, within a matter of months, the marriage was toast...
perhaps this is a local phenomenon.
but it seems the elders are slower to chase down those that disagree, or have faded in the past few years.
i have heard (and seen) in the past where someone even remotely outspoken about disagreeing with the watchtower or some such would get the fury of divine retribution brought down upon them in an instant.
IMustBreakAway:
I agree 100%! From what I'm seeing, the elders are too busy with mundane s*&t to have any time to go personally after those disagreeing. It takes time, it takes effort and in the end, it just reduces the size and income of the congregation anyway. I think they're beginning to see the light! You keep more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. When more and more are turning away on their own, why would you add to the numbers exiting by vigorously pursuing and ejecting more?
I know a few faders, no service for years, no meetings or the odd one every six months, but they are welcomed at the Memorial, or special meetings as if they've never left. Some of the elders are actually treating people like people! We get the odd phone call and INVITE (believe it or not!) and so far, no hounding...we've been offered 'spiritual assistance' but have turned it down - not required! They're not pursuing....(thank God!)
a jewish father was troubled by the way his son turned out, and went to see his rabbi about it.
"i brought him up in the faith, gave him a very expensive barmitzvah, cost me a fortune to educate him.
then he tells me last week he has decided to be a christian!
R. Crusoe - LOL!

Another good one!
Your handwritting (sic) is awful and so is your spelling! For the record, that should be 'handwriting'! Never too late to correct...
now i know the birthday issue has been laboured to death, but... as a 17 year old living in a non-witness family,it's kinda hard for me to never question beliefs.
now, i've spent the past hour or so scanning through the 07 watchtower library on my family pc, and havven't found a definitive answer, so would appreciate some input on this.
basically: the bible shows bday's in a unfavourable light, the pagan roots have been highlighted, and the worldly side too, i know all this.
juswondering:
I used to have those same questions you are having. But I've decided to throw all those labels away, and just celebrate the joys of life. Having seen another year go by, I'm happy to celebrate the actual day of the year that I entered life on this planet and I couldn't give a rat's patootie as to what some old curmedgeon in Brooklyn seems to think about this, that or any other celebration. Similarly, I see the benefits and joys of observing Mother's Day and Father's Day - making a little 'extra' effort on those days to bring joy and appreciation to such valued and esteemed members of our families. And I now remember those days and the special things we do on them, because life is made up of SPECIAL MOMENTS that bring families together. Like others have said, it seems the WTS wants to eliminate family connections entirely, except for the 'ministry' work.
I couldn't believe the audacity of the speaker at the Memorial calling it a 'celebration' of Christ's death. It is a memorial, not a celebration. To celebrate means to remember with JOY, and birthdays or milestones in life are occasions for celebration. CELEBRATE AWAY - it is entirely liberating!
'Pagan' is just another label. The WTS has given that word such onerous connotations. More mind control, is all.
Glad you found JWD!
my husband never ceases to amaze me with the things he asks me.
yesterday night he asked me: why was jesus born perfect when mary was not perfect?
i said to him that it should be the same as having a surrogate mother.
Interesting point, Deputy Dog, about Paul saying death came through one man.
Does he then contradict himself at 1 Tim 2:14, where he talks about Eve becoming the first sinner?
Not to hijack the thread, but there just seem to be contradictions everywhere....

Let's not forget the original problem with the whole nativity story of Jesus: the mistranslation of the original Hebrew 'prophecy' in Isaiah referring to a 'young woman' giving birth, which was erroneously translated into Greek as 'virgin'...
